Istanbul, Turkey

I spent a week earlier this spring photographing Istanbul, Turkey. It was easy to walk nine to 10 miles a day through its streets fueled by Turkish coffee, which by the way is an excellent antidote to jet lag.

There is nowhere else like Istanbul. A cosmopolitan city with layers of  culture and ancient history it straddles two continents – Europe and Asia – the only city in the world to do so.

Pictured here are two of the city’s iconic sights taken during the day and night: the Suleymaniye Mosque perched above the Bosphorus and the Hagia Sophia in Sultanahmet Square. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
