I fell in love with Hong Kong at first sight almost 30 years ago and have been having a long distance love affair with it ever since. That first visit was a business trip to my then employer’s Hong Kong bureau wearing my journalist hat. I’ve been fortunate to have returned more than a dozen times over the years. Returning always feels like spending time with an old, favorite friend.

I had the good fortune to spend three weeks in Hong Kong earlier this year. This allowed me to explore and photograph many of its many nooks and crannies and take my time. This series of street photos, Love Letter to Hong Kong, is for the most part from my last two trips in 2023 and 2025. While I’ve been photographing Hong Kong for as long as I’ve been visiting it, I started making the transition to street photography in 2020. These last two trips reflect that effort.

The Love Letter to Hong Kong street photography project will be ongoing, hopefully for many more years to come.
